I’ve decided to venture into dangerous territory today and proclaim the top ice cream spots in Arlington Virginia. If you’re wondering about my qualifications in this field, I assure you I’ve been eating ice cream my whole life, and have developed a very sophisticated palette for the cold treat.
So at the risk of offending some, here are the very best ice cream spots in Arlington:
Toby’s Homemade Ice Cream (www.tobysicecream.com)
5849 A Washington Blvd, Arlington VA
Toby’s is a longtime favorite of mine, due in part to the fact that I lived a short walk from Westover Shopping Center for many years. They also happen to have some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had. It’s all homemade in small batches, with some awesome unique flavors like ‘Bittersweet Chocolate’ and ‘Banana Cream Pie’. All of their ice cream is made with at least 16% butterfat which designates it as ‘super-premium’ quality. I can attest to the fact that it’s some of the creamiest ice cream I’ve ever had.

Nicecream (www.nicecream.com)
2831 Clarendon Blvd. Arlington, VA
This is one of those Liquid Nitrogen ice cream spots where they make the ice cream fresh right in front of you. Not only is it cool to watch, but Nicecream also uses local grass-fed cream and ingredients to make their unique flavors. And they are pretty unique! This is one that you’ve probably never come across before: Midnight Matcha – Made with Matcha Green Tea and Activated Charcoal, which turns the ice cream black! Pretty cool looking, and great tasting.
They also have a dairy free treat made with bananas and agave that’s quite good, so I hear.

Boccato Rustic Gelato Lounge (www.gelatoarlingtonva.wixsite.com/boccato)
2719 Wilson Blvd. Arlington, VA
This is a family favorite for us. It’s a great spot to grab dessert after having dinner in Clarendon, and has some of the best gelato I’ve ever tasted. The Lychee Peach and Salted Caramel are both to die for. They also feature a bunch of other flavors that change on a regular basis. One of my grandkids’ favorite dessert spots. Oh, and the coffee there is really, really good as well!
n Store has a well-deserved rep as one of the best food spots in Arlington. The last time I was in the Westover location, I noticed they had gelato. I got some, and it did not disappoint! Like everything else The Italian Store serves, their gelato was top-notch. The flavors are mostly traditional, if you’re looking for a quick gelato fix in Arlington, go check their selection out!

LaMoo Creamery (www.lamoocreamery.com)
2501-B N Harrison St. Arlington, VA
This unique spot makes Thai Style Rolled Ice Cream. It is hand-rolled in front of the customer on chilled plates using only fresh ingredients without preservatives, stabilizers or thickeners. It’s cool to watch, and even cooler to the taste. The flavors are really great, and different from the other places I’ve talked about so far. My favorite is called ‘Tea Party’ and is made with Thai tea, peanuts and condensed milk. LaMoo is really good, and a lot of fun to visit.

The Italian Store (www.italianstore.com)
5837 Washington Blvd, Arlington VA
So this isn’t an ice cream shop per se, but The Italian Store has a well-deserved rep as one of the best food spots in Arlington. The last time I was in the Westover location, I noticed they had gelato. I got some, and it did not disappoint! Like everything else The Italian Store serves, their gelato was top-notch. The flavors are mostly traditional, if you’re looking for a quick gelato fix in Arlington, go check their selection out!
