It’s that time of the year to check smoke detectors and replace batteries.

There are two basic types of smoke detectors (smoke alarm) sensors: ‘ionization’ and ‘photoelectric’. Ionization sensors react quickly to a fast-flame fire. Photoelectric sensors work quickly with smoke.

It is recommended that a home have both types of smoke alarms or combination ionization – photoelectric alarm, also known as dual sensor alarm, installed. In addition to smoke alarms, a carbon monoxide detector is also recommended.
